Low back spasms sent him to the 15-day IL on May 8, then the 60-day IL on Jun 6, and after a rehab assignment in Aug he was activated Aug 25, missing 109 regular-season days in that stint. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 112, he finished 244th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 132 spots below, and 37th of 236 starters. His 33.2 CSW% over 1152 pitches was the 6th highest of 517 pitchers with 100+ BF, and his 34.0 K% over 288 BF was the 13th highest of 517 pitchers with 100+ BF. His ERA of 3.53 ran 0.65 above his xERA of 2.88 over 288 BF, and results slipped after the layoff, a 2.72 ERA in 39.2 IP before the stint against a 4.46 ERA in 34.1 IP after. On the day he went down the TDK LABS card had flagged the curveball as lost with a weak strike rate on the pitch; by late Aug it had him dominating in rehab with an elite strikeout rate.
