Tyler Tolbert was a speed-first bench piece who hit better than his role suggested: over 78 games and 37 starts he went .285/.347/.392 in 130 AB, with 3 HR, 32 R, 8 RBI and 22 SB, a 20.9 K% and an 8.1 BB% over 148 PA. He was optioned Apr 19 and recalled May 22, both by KCR. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 920, he finished 523rd of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 30th of 61 shortstops. His .329 wOBA ran 42 points above his .287 xwOBA over 148 PA, and he started 8 of 26 games in Mar-Jun against 29 of 52 in Jul-Sep. By late May the TDK LABS card had him as a bench recall used mainly for his legs, with little offered from the bat. By early Sep it described him as a hot platoon bat with standout speed, and by late Sep it noted his batting average was running well ahead of his expected numbers within that platoon role.
