2026 review

Walker Buehler was a back-end starter who ran hot and cold, posting a 4.63 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in 153.2 IP with a 20.1 K% and an 8.8 BB% over 651 BF across 32 games and 32 starts for SDP, with 9 W, 6 L and 22 HR allowed. He signed a minor league contract Feb 17 and had his contract selected Mar 25 before opening the year in the rotation. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 1214, he finished 1126th of 1472 overall in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 88 spots above, and 729th of 811 pitchers, 182nd of 236 starters. His 4.63 ERA ran 0.36 above his 4.27 xERA over 651 BF, and the split between his best and worst months was stark, a 1.71 ERA in 26.1 IP in Jun against a 9.82 ERA in 22.0 IP in Jul. The TDK LABS card had little to say in early May, then by mid Jun was calling the stretch a real stabilization with a run of outings allowing few runs, by mid Aug pointed to a clean start after a rough patch as a sign of things settling, and by late Sep described him as a veteran who had snapped a rough stretch with a strong recent outing.
