Zack ShortDET · NYM · SS
2026 review
Zack Short bounced between rosters and rarely got settled at the plate: over 29 games and 19 starts he hit .140 and slugged .180 in 50 AB, drawing a .262 OBP, a 30.6 K%, and a 12.9 BB% over 62 PA, with 2 2B, 4 R, and 2 RBI split across DET and NYM. He was traded from WSN to DET on May 1, had his contract selected May 3, and cycled through a designated for assignment, an outright, and a signing before another designated for assignment on Jun 12; NYM claimed him off waivers Jun 15, and from there he was designated for assignment, outrighted, selected, and designated for assignment again through Jul 20. Undrafted in NFBC drafts, he finished 1427th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank and 60th of 61 shortstops. His playing time thinned across the year, 15 games and 34 PA in May, 11 games and 21 PA in Jun, and 3 games and 7 PA in Jul. The TDK LABS card caught a brief roster stay in early May with no lasting value, a brief mid-Jul look as utility infield depth undercut by cold contact, and by late Jul an outright off the roster.
